The contents of this site are copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 C. K. Jester-Young. I believe in readers' rights, so I hope the conditions stated below are free enough for most everyone.

The site is roughly split into a few categories:

  1. the mail archives;
  2. my personal writings;
  3. all the HTML content on this site except the above;
  4. non-HTML content, such as software and documentation.

The mail archives

I didn't write most of the messages contained in the mail archives, so it'd be a bit grand if I were to claim copyright over them. However, I encourage you to use them solely for the purpose of reading, not for email address harvesting or other evil purposes. I reserve the right to remove the archives if they are abused.

My personal writings

There are two sections where I ‘air’ my personal works and voice my own opinions. For all files under the scribbles/ and friends/ directories, the permissions are as follows, unless otherwise specified:

Permission is granted to make and distribute verbatim copies of the work provided the copyright notice and this permission notice are preserved on all copies.

Please note that nothing above grants you the right to claim copyright ownership. Many publications (and writing contests!) stipulate that you have to be the copyright owner of anything you submit, in which case you may not submit my work as yours.

General HTML content

Most of the remaining HTML content on this site are considered to be generally useful, and would serve best if allowed to be distributed freely and modified. So, the permissions are as above, with the addition of:

Permission is granted to copy and distribute modified versions of the work under the conditions of verbatim copying, provided that the entire resulting derived work is distributed under the terms of a permission notice identical to this one.

Other content

Non-HTML content, such as software and documentation, come with their own copyright notices and permissions.

The exception to this is software I initially published on or before 31 October 1999. Any such software lacking a copyright notice should be construed as being in the public domain, with no copyright being asserted by me.
